From August 27 to September 11, the Miami International Ballet Festival is one of those events you don’t want to miss. Showcasing performing arts by more than 20 ballet companies from around the world and more than 200 dancers, the International Ballet Festival –recipient of A Live For Dance Award— this event is a unique opportunity to enjoy spectacular performances, dance film series, art exhibits inspired by the dance, book presentations, workshops and master classes.
The International Ballet Festival is held every year in Miami from the last week of August through mid-September by The Miami Hispanic Ballet Company. Established since 1993, the MHB is dedicated to identifying and promoting professional dance artists of Hispanic descent in Miami-Dade County.
The International Ballet Festival in Miami represents the most ambitious ballet project ever conceived in South Florida. The prestige of the participating companies and renowned principal ballet stars during the festival has made it possible through so many years. The most demanding audiences from Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach Counties and Miami Beach as well as international tourists have set their attention in a profound way to the stunning array of national and international ballet companies that participate in the festival each year.
The festival has received rave reviews and earned the utmost respect of the local and international media. The director is Pedro Pablo Peña has been honored not only for his lifetime artistic achievements but also for his tireless work of promoting the theater, dance and the preservation of Cuban Heritage in exile for all ages and cultures. Pedro Pablo Peña, who was the choreographer for the Warner Brothers film “The Specialist” and had been the choreographer for Univision’s TV show “Sabado Gigante Internacional”, has had a continuous work in the development of dance in Miami.

This year, the Miami International Ballet Festival celebrates its 21 editions. The festival will take place at seven different venues across Miami-Dade County including Chapman Conference Center Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus, Lehman Theater Miami Dade College North Campus, Miami Beach Cinematheque, Coral Gables Cinematheque, Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, Colony Theater, Miami Dade County Auditorium, the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater and the Miramar Cultural Center, Broward County.
